project 15: Hope Tree by Erica Raby
Wednesday, July 24 - November 4th, 2013
Eastwood Mall, Niles, OH

Materials: Leaves made from 1,000+ plastic water bottles, hand cut and painted; Flowers from junk mail; additional materials include branches, newspaper, packaging materials & other post-consumer waste.

"Hope Tree" embodies the No Stone Unturned Foundation’s mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support and research of children with health initiatives and/or
disabilities and their families. They provide help for children and their families; provide education to schools and communities, and advocate for research of these ongoing disorders.

The No Stone Unturned Foundation is a beacon of strength and hope for so many. The tree, constructed from smaller branches bound together and over a thousand of recycled plastic bottles, represents this strength. Giving and receiving is another key element of this piece. The circulation of hope is essential in our lives; visitors are encouraged to write words of hope and encouragement on the paper tags, that will be added to the sculpture through out the exhibition.
