Faint Feilds 13
9th Floor, Space 149
As you stumble across flowers pouring from the walls via pipes and faucets in Radio Sebastian's installation "Faint Fields 13," you can imagine the world from which they came. It is both a world just behind the wall and a dim, faraway dimension. But what to do next--rip out the wall in search of the multicolored realm behind it or wait to see if the flowers continue growing out until they are no longer on the fringes of our vision but instead cover everything in sight?
Radio Sebastian is an art team of Yumiko Blackwell and Corwin Levi. They started making work together in 2011 and had their first solo show at the Roswell Museum and Art Center in early 2012. Their work is project based and they are currently investigating the space that lies behind walls, which they call faint fields. Blackwell has a MLS from Catholic University; Levi has an MFA from the Tyler School of Art and a JD from the University of Virginia. Residencies include Millay Colony; Kimmel-Harding-Nelson; Elsewhere; Milkwood International; and the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program. Levi has also had recent solo shows at Hillyer Art Space in Washington, DC, and 2nd Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA. Their website is www.radiosebastian.com.
